Time-lapse recording of a closing flower
Example of integrating time-based media into the viewer for the presentation and contextualization of digital collection objects
Technical characteristics of the object
This example demonstrates the integration of moving image content into our digital collections and knowledge infrastructure. The viewer supports the structured presentation of video formats and enables their direct connection with objects, collections, people, places, and scholarly contexts. In this way, audiovisual media become an integral part of the digital knowledge space and can be searched, explored, and presented alongside other collection content.
In this demonstration system, media files are delivered via progressive download of MP4 files. Even without dedicated streaming infrastructure, audiovisual content can be provided efficiently and integrated seamlessly into existing portals, digital exhibitions, or media guides.
Time-lapse recordings, film sequences, and documentary footage extend the traditional presentation of collection objects by adding a temporal dimension. Movements, transformations, and processes become visible that can only be represented to a limited extent in static images. This creates additional opportunities for research, documentation, and digital knowledge transfer.
