Example for the integration and display of PDF documents within the viewer as a supplement to collection and research data
Technical characteristics of the object
This example demonstrates the integration of PDF documents into our digital infrastructure. The viewer enables direct display of extensive documents without requiring users to leave the application or download files separately. This allows publications, research reports, inventory lists, exhibition catalogues, conservation documentation, or other accompanying materials to be made available directly within the object’s scholarly context.
PDF files are not treated as isolated attachments; instead, they can be linked to objects, persons, places, events, or collections. This creates interconnected information spaces in which structured metadata and unstructured documents can be researched and used together.
As with all media types in our infrastructure, management takes place centrally within a shared data space. Documents are therefore not only available in portals but also in digital exhibitions, media guides, and other applications. This example shows how traditional document collections can be seamlessly integrated into digital research and mediation environments.
